Private Thomas McCausland

 

The background of this North Irish Horseman is not known at present.

Thomas McCausland enlisted in the North Irish Horse between 21 December 1912 and 10 January 1913 (No.775 – later Corps of Hussars No.71101). He embarked for France with C Squadron on 20 August 1914, seeing action on the retreat from Mons and advance to the Aisne.

McCausland remained with the regiment throughout the war. On 6 April 1918 he faced a court martial for 'quitting his post; allowing a person in his charge to escape'. He was awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No.2.

On 4 March 1919 he was demobilised and transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve.
